MANAMA: An industrial complex for glass processing for architectural works will be set up in Bahrain, it was revealed yesterday. This factory will produce a wide range of glass of different sizes including tempered, laminated, insulated, sandblasted and silk screen printed glass. The announcement came as Industry and Commerce Minister Dr Hassan Fakhro received Glasstech Industries board member Engineer Fawaz Darwish Al Mannai. Dr Fahro welcomed the new investment, which he said would initially bring 75 new jobs and increase exports. He said that this brings to 11 the number of companies that have signed leases so far this year to establish manufacturing operations in the Bahrain International Investment Park. This complex will be built on a 21,500 metre plot of land at the Park in Hidd area, the lease for which was signed yesterday. The annual production will be one million metres of glass of different sizes and types per shift. Mr Al Mannai said that Glasstech Industries have already signed contracts with leading international manufacturers for the supply of production lines. “The construction contract for the complex will be awarded in October this year and Glasstech expect to be producing for the local market, Gulf and Middle Eastern countries by the end of 2010.” Mr Al Mannai said the regional market is highly-competitive at present but given his experience of more than 30 years in the same industry, he is confident they will be able to compete effectively. He said that their factory will be a showpiece in their sector as they will keep all types of glass manufacturing activities under one roof. Mr Al Mannai thanked the kingdom’s leadership and Industry and Commerce Ministry for support and guidance.

Window glass – Can it be recycled?

March 1st, 2009 @ kadraoui // No Comments

Yes, you can! Many types of glass can be recycled via the Recycling for Charity bottle banks at your nearest local recycling centers.

How should I recycle glass?

  • Glass containers such as bottles and jars should be cleaned and any tops or corks removed before recycling.
  • When using bottle banks, put the glass in the correct bank for clear, green or brown glass. Blue glass goes in with green glass.
  • Only use bottle banks during the day – the sound of smashing bottles can make a real racket which disturbs people who live nearby!
  • Remember not to litter the area around the bottle bank with your empty bags and boxes.

You can’t recycle: window panes, light bulbs, glass ovenware or electrical equipment. Dispose of these carefully with your normal household waste.

What else can I do with it?

Return it!

  • If a bottle is returnable it is better to return it, rather than to recycle it. For example, if your milk bottle came from the milkman, make sure he gets it back!
