Sir,
THIS message needs to be put across throughout Bahrain and strong action taken against violators. People have become so lazy that they cannot even dump garbage into the proper bins provided. They just leave it anywhere near the next available position. We live on the ground floor of a building in Muharraq and almost every day one of the tenants leaves his big black bag of garbage right outside the entrance of the building. The cats attack these bags, leaving them halfopen inviting flies, insects, ants and rats and soon the place starts to stink. Every day the Gulf City Cleaning Company worker cleans it all up only for the routine to be repeated the next day. Can anyone provide the contact number or email ID of the municipality or the company supervisor, whom we can contact and put a stop to this nuisance. The ministry website does not have such options.

MANAMA: The National Oil and Gas Authority (Noga) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (ADFEC) to promote clean energy. The deal is part of joint efforts to reduce the repercussions of climate change and the emission of carbon dioxide. Oil and Gas Affairs Minister and Noga chairman Dr Abdulhussain Mirza signed the agreement with ADFEC chief executive officer Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber. He hailed Bahrain’s leadership for addressing climate change and environmental issues. Dr Mirza highlighted the role of Public Commission for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and the Wildlife president Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa for following up on the issue and co-ordinating with concerned organisation. “The deal paves the way for other key projects promoting clean development by relying on green technology in oil projects,” he said. He also outlined Noga’s efforts to rationalise the energy, protect the environment and ensure oil companies abide by laws aimed at reducing pollution and industrial emission. He cited the Bapco-led low-sulphur diesel plant as a key Noga project to protect the environment. Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa opened the facility in December 2007 to mark the 75th anniversary of the discovery of oil in Bahrain. The treatment of sewerage water was also mentioned as part of Noga’s efforts to protect the environment. The oil companies under Noga have also contributed to the efforts, launching a string of green projects as part of a drive to explore sustained environmental solutions.
“Sustained development can’t be attained unless harmony between industries and the environment is achieved,” he said. He also stressed Noga’s keenness to promote co-operation with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company which possesses the necessary expertise in the field.
UAE Ambassador Abddulaziz bin Hadef Al Shamsi, Noga chief executive Dr Ahmed Ali Al Shiryan and other senior officials were present at the event.
